For a brief summary of my qualifications and interests, see: 1. Quick overview, a bare-bones summary of legal issues (mostly
constitutional) that I have handled and of two sample cases (my first and a
recent one), with unsolicited comments by attorneys; 2. Glimpses of other cases,
with more unsolicited comments, bringing the case
total to nine--about a one-fourth sample of my work
(including widely cited cases, like Wisconsin v.
Yoder, in which the U. S. Supreme Court quoted me by name); 3. More on the sample cases, presented case by case so you can choose; 4. General qualifications; and 5. Photocopies of unsolicited comments (in case you’d
like to verify my quotes).
Before
establishing this web site in 2004, I never publicized my expert witnessing.
I found each request for testimony a nice surprise, coming because one
attorney mentioned me to another, or because somebody read of my work. I would drop regular duties as
professor, help with a case, and rush back, seldom keeping notes. But recently, with time to reflect
and dig up records, I realize that helping bring justice to mistreated people
may be the most gratifying aspect of my career. So
instead of relaxing in semi-retirement, I plan to continue witnessing in
significant cases—just as long as my testimony influences court
decisions, alarms attorneys on the other side, and gratifies attorneys whom I
assist.
